Online Study Courses: Learning To Learn Again

Thousands of websites provide thousands of online study courses, ranging from the art of make-up and beauty to high-tech software programming.  Most people do not even know where to start when selecting the subjects they want to learn more about.  But one thing is certain: people prefer online study courses because these courses save time and save money in comparison to full-time classroom courses.

Online study courses are a great help for people who do not have enough time to travel to a classroom for their educational needs.  They can sit at home and study any of the thousands of topics from the comfort of living rooms and bedrooms, saving time, money and stress. These courses also favor students whose present circumstances might not provide for full-time study or a full-time commitment, allowing them to learn on their own time, with their own schedules.

For anyone desiring to undertake any of the available online study courses, he or she has a wide variety of subjects to choose from.  A lot of universities and educational institutions offer numerous internet-based learning portals which supplement their more-traditional approaches. Many have unique entry requirements, allowing each individual to select the program best for his or her needs.

From short diploma-certifiable online study courses through graduate degree courses and Ph.D. programs, the list of possible online study courses is quite extensive.  Potential students must take the time to select the courses of their choice, and then select an appropriate institution that offers online and distance learning.

The realm of online study courses includes hundreds of subjects, including programming, web or graphic design, fashion design, science, art and many more.  However, some colleges and learning centers are better than others, and potential students should try and pick from these exceptional schools:

1. University of California-Berkeley: UC-Berkeley is considered one of the best public universities in the United States.  It offers web-casts and pod-casts of lectures from many of its immanent professors, and students can track new lectures through a continuous RSS feed, insuring that they are getting the latest course information.

2. Massachusetts Institute of Technology: MIT is a top-ranking American university, offering mostly science and technology courses. Its Open Courseware software ensures that online students receive the same stellar education as their in-class peers.

3. Carnegie Mellon University: Currently, students can find eleven online study courses through Carnegie Mellon’s Open Learning Initiative. These courses are offered through easy-to-use e-books, and tests are given with the use of Java applets.

4. Utah State University: With a course structure similar to MIT, Utah State’s Open Courseware gives students a wide arrange of educational programming.

5. Tufts University: Tuft’s Open Courseware, while similar to MIT, does not grant any degrees, certificates or credits.  However, there is no registration required, and students can still share feedback with faculty, even though they cannot directly interact.

6. John Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health: This academic division of John Hopkins offers numerous online study courses related to health and medical life sciences.

7. University of Washington School of Computer Science: Considered the best institute for online study courses in computer science and engineering, the University of Washington primarily implements class notes, posted lectures and video lectures in its internet-based learning portals.

8. OpenLearn: Supported by the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, OpenLearn is very popular among European students.  It has a large e-book library, but does not provide a forum for every course.
